The WSHS met on Nov. 28, 2016 at the First Christian Church with Sandy Brug, Marge Straube, Hal Pearson Thomas Chambers, Eric Lucas, Kristie Melendez and Sue Buxmann present.
The social gathering for raising money was a great success. We thank Tom Prenger of the Bank of Colorado and Jason Shaeffer of Chimney Park Bistro for providing drinks and food. Thank you to all the members and the group from the Town who helped make this possible.
Austin would like to see an authentic farmers hat. Sue will see if she can find one.
The group agreed to visit the studio to see Austin’s work. Sandy will be in touch with him.
There was some discussion about the plaques. The large donors will decide what they want on their plaque. We will invite Eric and Austin to the meeting in January to discuss dimensions and suggestions.
We will have an unveiling of the statue in June and have a VIP reception for the large donors. We will send out special invitations. The new pavilion might be done by then.
We need to contact local reporters to get an item in the paper so people in the community know how far we have gotten on this project.
We talked about starting a membership drive for the whole community in March and April. It was suggested we call it “A Book and A Brick”. It would include a lifetime membership, our history book and have your name engraved in a brick around the statue for $300.
Sandy suggested we also do a recipe book.
Another suggestion was reproducing the old postcards to sell.
Kristie suggested we sell our books on Facebook or our web site.
Eric agreed to take care of our property on the corner of Fifth and Ash Street. It is looking bad and he would like to get it done before the weekend of December 3.
We will not have a meeting in December.
Next meeting will be January 23, 2017. See everyone then.
Respectfully submitted
Sue Buxmann
